Pasta Penance

Although the cookies I presented in my last post are scrumptious, I feel that I owe you a healthy food option to make amends. I love most ethnic foods, and get teased quite often by my loved ones about the way I eat. My nephew actually told me when he was a little boy that I ate so healthy, I was never going to die! Lol! The funny thing is that even though I have a refined palate, I’ll never let go of my girlhood favorite…spaghetti 🙂

Now, we all know that pasta, sauce, meat and cheese can rack up calories very quickly. Aside of eliminating spaghetti, fettuccini, etc. from my diet (which will NEVER happen,) I needed to find an alternative. In the fall, I sometimes use spaghetti squash to replace the noodles in my favorite meal. When it’s out of season, however, I was stuck. That is, until I found this little jewel…

Pasta Zero noodles by Nasoya are Japanese shirataki noodles that are only 15 calories per serving. This can easily eliminate hundreds of calories (not to mention those pesky carbs.) They are available all year, they’re already cooked, and they are only about $2.50 per bag. Plus, saving on the pasta calories allows wiggle room for a couple of cake mix cookies. It doesn’t get any better than this!
