$15.00 Fix

When I bought my current Gypsy Rider, I knew that there were some cosmetic updates that I would need to make. It is an older rig, and a few things have deteriorated over time, but the previous owner barely used it, so the mileage is very low, and it is in overall very good condition. It also has the layout that I wanted, a front facing pullout couch and two swivel chairs, bedroom, full shower, etc. so the few updates I need to make are pretty minuscule.

Inside the rig, I’d imagine due to humidity and age, the material used to cover seams in the walls and ceiling had curled very badly. It looked like this throughout the RV:

I didn’t want to tear things up completely or start a huge DIY project, so I decided to simply use wallpaper borders as a quick fix. I went to Walmart (pretty much the only store in the area where I’m staying now,) and even there, the borders were $20-$30 per roll. It would have cost over $100 to purchase what I needed, and I quickly decided against that. I’m pretty thrifty and like to get the best bang for my buck. I don’t however want things to look like what I paid for them. I believe you can look like a million dollars without spending it.

After deciding that I didn’t want to spend more than $20 for my repairs, I began to look for other options. It took all of 10 minutes for me to find the perfect fix – – decorative tape. I bought three rolls for the sitting and kitchen areas, and two for the bedroom. I beat my impromptu budget and made it out of Walmart having spent $14.97.

It took about 45 minutes for me to complete my task, and I have two rolls of tape left. The ceiling and walls look great, and I am definitely happy with the outcome.

Moral of the story: look beyond the obvious and you might find your treasure in the obscure (and I don’t just mean in decorating…)
