Winter RV Woes

I’m now convinced that I have a bit of a sadomasochistic streak. This past week has presented my first set of real winter RVing challenges. Although I’m still scrambling for solutions, I’m actually excited by the challenges presented. Who thinks this way, but a glutton for punishment?

First, I discovered a roof leak. Nothing major — a trip to Home Depot for silicone and roof repair tape and a call to my ex-husband promptly took care of that!

Next, extremely low temperatures caused the water lines to freeze. I took a leisurely hour and a half drive, and voila — running water! I now just allow the faucet to slowly drip, and I’ve had no more issues.

The major issue for me now is a frozen valve and the need to empty my tanks. I’ve used RV antifreeze in the tanks, so the contents aren’t frozen, but when I pull the valves…nothing. This is a problem that needs to be promptly obliterated. Today, I’m snowed in, but as soon as things clear, I’ll make my way to Target for a hair dryer. I’m hoping that heating the valves will do the trick.

For now, I’ll stay inside, continue writing, sipping my fresh brewed caramel cinnamon coffee and watching the beauty of the first snowfall of the season.
